Personal Information - Derek Stockley

The following provides an insight into Derek Stockley’s background and experience (including training, human resources development and organisation review):

Derek Stockley is a widower, with five adult sons and two grandchildren.

Derek has lived in the eastern suburbs of  Melbourne,  Victoria,  Australia all his life. Derek is on the outskirts at Wonga Park (near Chirnside Park). This is a three minute drive to the "country" at the start of the famous Yarra Valley.

Melbourne has been described as one of the world’s most liveable cities. In fact it has been voted the best.

Derek’s personal activities and background include:

Youth Work

Ten years youth leadership work from 1970 to 1979 as leader, Branch Governor and District Commissioner.

During this time he was awarded a Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) in 1974.

He was also selected for participation in the international youth leader exchange program "Camp America" in 1977. (See current Camp America program details).


Chapter, regional, state and national positions

Held a variety of training and leadership positions in Jaycees (Junior Chamber) between 1973 and 1983, including Personal Development Chairman, Chapter President (Knox Jaycees), Regional Training Officer, State Training Officer (Victorian Jaycees), and National Resources Chairman of Australian Jaycees (now: Australian Junior Chamber).

JCI Senatorship

In 1982, one of the youngest Australians ever to be awarded a Jaycees International Senatorship (JCI Senator), resulting in Life Membership of Jaycees International, the highest recognition in Jaycees (JCI) worldwide.

Lifelong commitment to personal development

The Jaycee movement taught many things; as an example, see: Learning and Development.

As a result of the Jaycee membership, September 2014 marks forty years involvement and commitment to personal development in both business and the community. It has been a "key value" and "way of operating" throughout adulthood.
